Sophos
Sophos is a British cybersecurity company offering endpoint protection, firewall appliances, and managed detection and response to businesses globally.
What is Sophos?
Sophos has operated in enterprise and SMB cybersecurity since 1985, longer than most of its current competitors have existed. The company's XG Firewall (now Sophos Firewall) and Sophos Intercept X endpoint product are well established in the mid-market security segment, and the 2019 launch of Sophos Central as a unified cloud management console marked a significant architectural shift — consolidating endpoint, server, firewall, mobile, and email security management into a single cloud-delivered interface. Private equity firm Thoma Bravo acquired Sophos in 2020, providing capital for the platform consolidation and the continued build-out of Managed Detection and Response services.
Sophos Central is architecturally important because it handles policy management, alert triage, threat intelligence enrichment, and MDR case management from a single console. Sophos endpoints, firewalls, and servers all check in with Sophos Central to receive policy updates, submit telemetry, and report health status. The Synchronized Security feature — which allows endpoints and firewalls to share threat intelligence and trigger coordinated responses — depends on continuous communication between both device types and the cloud backend. When Sophos Central is degraded, the entire integrated security fabric loses its coordination layer.
Sophos service problems surface across the product line in recognisable ways. Endpoints report as unhealthy or unmanaged in Sophos Central when their check-in to the cloud backend fails, and policy updates — including new tamper protection settings and exclusion lists — stop propagating. Synchronized Security heartbeat failures between endpoints and the XG Firewall cause the firewall to treat affected machines as suspect and potentially block their traffic. Server protection agents on Linux lose connectivity to the cloud update service, causing definition staleness that accumulates quietly over time. MDR customers find that alert triage and case management in the Sophos Central console stalls when the backend is degraded, introducing delays into an inherently time-sensitive process.
Outage.gg tracks Sophos service status using real-time community reports from IT administrators and security operations teams. If Sophos Central is unavailable, endpoints are showing as unmanaged, or policy sync has stopped, the live status page shows current impact across the Sophos product family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Sophos outages and server status.
You can check the live Sophos server status at outage.gg/services/sophos. The page shows real-time community-submitted outage reports, an hourly trend chart, and the current health status.
Sophos can stop working for a number of reasons including scheduled maintenance windows, unexpected server failures, network infrastructure problems, or DDoS attacks. Check the live status page on Outage.gg for the latest community reports to see if others are experiencing the same issue.
Go to outage.gg/services/sophos and click the "Report an Issue" button. Your report is counted immediately and helps confirm whether a problem is widespread. Reports from multiple users trigger a status change visible to everyone watching the page.
Click the "Notify Me" bell button on the Sophos status page at outage.gg/services/sophos. Create a free account and we will send you an email the moment Sophos comes back online — no app download required.
Many services maintain official status pages with planned maintenance notices. Outage.gg aggregates real-time community-reported outages which often surface faster than official channels.
