The company's XG Firewall (now Sophos Firewall) and Sophos Intercept X endpoint product are well established in the mid-market security segment, and the 2019 launch of Sophos Central as a unified cloud management console marked a significant architectural shift — consolidating endpoint, server, firewall, mobile, and email security management into a single cloud-delivered interface. Private equity firm Thoma Bravo acquired Sophos in 2020, providing capital for the platform consolidation and the continued build-out of Managed Detection and Response services.

Sophos Central is architecturally important because it handles policy management, alert triage, threat intelligence enrichment, and MDR case management from a single console.
