OVHcloud
OVHcloud is a European cloud and web hosting provider headquartered in France, offering VPS, dedicated servers, and public cloud at competitive pricing.
What is OVHcloud?
OVHcloud has grown from a small French web hosting company founded in 1999 by Octave Klaba into the largest cloud provider in Europe by infrastructure scale, operating over 30 data centres and managing more than 400,000 physical servers across four continents. The company built its position on a distinctive model: rather than renting capacity from hyperscalers, OVHcloud designs, manufactures, and operates its own hardware, including proprietary water-cooling systems that reduce energy consumption in its data centres. That vertical integration allows pricing that frequently undercuts AWS, Azure, and GCP by significant margins, attracting price-sensitive workloads and European customers seeking data residency within the EU.
OVHcloud's product portfolio spans bare metal dedicated servers, public cloud compute based on OpenStack, managed Kubernetes, private cloud based on VMware, and a CDN and DNS infrastructure. The Public Cloud offering provides on-demand virtual instances, object storage compatible with the S3 API, managed databases, and load balancers. The OVHcloud Control Panel is the management interface for all products, and the underlying API — which the Control Panel consumes — is used directly by customers who manage infrastructure through Terraform, Ansible, or custom automation. OVHcloud experienced a major catastrophic fire at its SBG2 data centre in Strasbourg in March 2021, which destroyed the building and caused data loss for customers who had not replicated off-site.
OVHcloud service disruptions produce specific patterns across the infrastructure stack. API timeouts during the control plane affect instance provisioning, network configuration changes, and storage operations simultaneously — customers using Terraform or Ansible see provider errors that indicate the OVH API is unreachable or returning 503 responses. Bare metal provisioning failures occur when the automated reinstallation pipeline loses connectivity to the provisioning infrastructure, leaving servers stuck in an "installing" state indefinitely. Storage I/O degradation on the Public Cloud object storage layer surfaces as increased latency and failed PUT/GET requests, affecting any application that depends on OVH object storage for data persistence. DNS propagation delays at OVHcloud's authoritative nameservers cause resolution failures for hosted zones.
Outage.gg tracks OVHcloud service status using real-time community reports from system administrators and DevOps engineers. If the OVH API is timing out, provisioning is stalled, or storage I/O is degraded, the live status page shows current impact from the OVHcloud user community.
Common OVHcloud Problems
Issues users most frequently report when OVHcloud is having problems.
Service unavailability
API calls are failing, dashboards are unreachable, or the service is returning 5xx errors.
Slow performance / high latency
Response times are significantly above normal, causing timeouts and degraded user experience.
Authentication failures
API keys, OAuth tokens, or SSO logins are being rejected unexpectedly.
Data sync & storage issues
Files, databases, or synced data are not updating, missing, or inaccessible.
