MDLive
MDLive is a telehealth platform connecting patients with board-certified doctors, therapists, and dermatologists through on-demand video and phone visits.
What is MDLive?
MDLIVE has been in the telehealth space since 2009, predating the broad consumer adoption of virtual care by nearly a decade. The platform provides on-demand and scheduled virtual visits with board-certified physicians, dermatologists, therapists, and psychiatrists — covering urgent care, primary care, and behavioral health. Acquired by Cigna through its Evernorth subsidiary in 2021, MDLIVE now serves millions of members, many through employer-sponsored and insurance benefits that make MDLIVE available at no additional cost. Patients access the service through the MDLIVE website, the MDLIVE app, or white-labeled portals embedded in health plan member sites.
The MDLIVE platform integrates a video infrastructure, a patient matching and scheduling system, and EHR-like documentation tools used by the physicians who see patients through the platform. Insurance eligibility and cost-sharing are verified in real time against payer systems. After visits, encounter documentation is available in the patient's MDLIVE portal and can be sent to a primary care physician. The behavioral health component adds scheduling for ongoing therapy relationships, not just one-time urgent visits. Because MDLIVE often operates as an embedded benefit within other health plan portals, its availability is intertwined with those portal authentication paths.
Telehealth failures on MDLIVE are time-sensitive — a patient who cannot connect to a virtual visit at a scheduled time may not be able to reschedule quickly or seek alternative care easily. When the platform is degraded, patients encounter errors joining video visits after being placed in a virtual waiting room. The MDLIVE app fails to connect or authenticate. Appointment scheduling returns no available provider slots even when providers are online. Prescription send-to-pharmacy steps after a visit fail to route. In some cases, the video feed connects but drops audio or video within the first few minutes, ending the consultation prematurely.
Outage.gg tracks MDLIVE service status through community reports from patients and caregivers. If you cannot join a virtual visit, the MDLIVE app is throwing errors, or scheduling is broken, the live status page shows real-time disruption data.
