Lords Mobile is IGG's flagship strategy game and one of the most commercially successful titles in the mobile real-time strategy genre, having accumulated over 400 million registered players since its 2016 launch. The game combines base-building strategy with hero collection, real-time guild warfare, and a world map shared by thousands of players on the same server kingdom. Guild battles — particularly Kingdom versus Kingdom events and Darknest clearing — are the social spine of the game, with coordinated player groups that take their strategic alliances seriously enough to maintain Discord servers and organised schedules.

The game's server architecture runs separate kingdoms — numbered server shards — that each host a distinct world map shared by tens of thousands of players. Player actions, troop movements, attacks, and construction timers all run server-side in real time, meaning the game state is always live even when the player's device is offline. This persistent world model means server downtime is especially costly: troops that were marching when the server went down may return to a different state than expected, timed events miss their completion windows, and construction queue progress may not save correctly if the shutdown was unclean. In-app purchases of gems are handled separately from game servers but must reach the IGG payment system to credit the account.

Server problems at Lords Mobile surface in several ways depending on severity. The game app fails to load past the startup screen, returning a "Server Connection Error" message. Players mid-battle experience sudden disconnects where troops appear frozen and the app must be restarted to reconnect. After reconnect, recently initiated troop movements may not have registered, requiring the player to re-send — sometimes to find that the window for a time-sensitive attack has passed. Gem purchases that processed on the payment side fail to credit to the account wallet, requiring support ticket resolution. Guild events with tight timing windows — like the Hell Event contribution system — record no progress during server degradation even if the player is actively playing.
