Gojek
Gojek is a Southeast Asian super app from Jakarta covering ride-hailing, food delivery, payments, and logistics across Indonesia and beyond.
What is Gojek?
Gojek started in Jakarta in 2010 as a call-centre-dispatched motorcycle taxi service operating with a fleet of a few dozen drivers. It transformed into a super-app phenomenon when it launched a mobile app in 2015, adding food delivery, courier services, digital payments, and dozens more services onto its ride-hailing foundation. The company merged with Tokopedia in 2021 to form GoTo Group, creating one of the largest technology companies in Southeast Asia. Gojek operates primarily in Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand, where motorcycle taxis (ojeks) are a primary urban transport mode.
The Gojek super-app handles multiple distinct service verticals simultaneously: GoRide and GoCar for transport, GoFood for food delivery, GoSend for parcels, GoPay for digital payments and financial services, and GoShop for retail. GoPay is particularly central to the ecosystem — it handles payments across all Gojek services and has grown into a standalone fintech product with bill payment, insurance, and investment features. The platform's backend must coordinate driver-partner matching, merchant inventory and order management, and payment processing across all these verticals in real time.
When Gojek has a platform outage in Indonesia or across its Southeast Asian markets, the impact cascades across multiple services simultaneously. Ride requests fail to match, leaving users unable to book transport during high-demand periods like morning rush hour or rainy weather. GoFood orders stall in the placing or confirmation phase. GoPay transaction failures are particularly visible because the wallet is used for payments outside the Gojek app as well, meaning a GoPay backend event affects QR code payments at merchants across the country.
Outage.gg tracks Gojek platform status using community reports from users across Southeast Asia. If rides are not matching, GoFood orders are failing, or GoPay transactions are not processing, the live status page shows current impact.
