Dynatrace's Davis AI engine is its principal differentiator: rather than requiring operators to write alert rules, Davis continuously analyses the topology of monitored environments and raises "problems" that bundle correlated symptoms across infrastructure layers into a single root cause narrative. This approach works at enormous scale — Dynatrace monitors some of the world's largest financial institutions, airlines, and e-commerce platforms, processing trillions of data points daily across millions of monitored entities. When Dynatrace has an incident, the impact is felt in the absence of signal rather than in visible errors. Alerting stops firing, so infrastructure failures in customer environments may go undetected. Distributed trace capture drops, creating gaps in performance data and making it difficult to analyse incidents that occurred during the outage window. The Dynatrace API, which many teams use to export data to other platforms or trigger external workflows, returns errors that break automated reporting pipelines.
